The Hand Pieced Quilt Along 2021 Is Coming!

The Hand Pieced Quilt Along 2021 Is Coming!

Patty at Elm Street Quilts and I are back for our 3rd Hand Pieced Quilt Along! (Check out the ones from 2019 and 2020). We’ve designed a new pattern that you are going to love! (Spoiler: this year it’s not a sampler quilt.)

We’ve been enjoying stitching our sample quilts and are so excited to share them with you–which we will do on January 25!

This year I challenged myself to step out of my comfort zone with my color palette. I chose this gorgeous semi-solid line from Moda Designer Robin Pickens called Thatched. (aff link) It’s been so fun to work with and you just can’t beat the quality of Moda fabric!

I was really tempted to do this quilt in blues and grays–my comfort zone–but I’m loving working with this combo!

Just like our previous QALs, we will have link-ups and giveaways from fabulous sponsors supplying wonderful prizes. You are not going to want to miss this!

If you’ve never hand sewed before or just want to brush up on your hand piecing skills, we’ve got lots of resources for you from our previous QALs in 2019 and 2020. You may want to stitch up a few practice blocks while you wait for the quilt along to start.

Also, please consider joining our wonderful, supportive community of hand sewers in the Hand Pieced QAL Facebook group. It’s totally optional, but it’s a wonderful way to stay engaged and be inspired by talent all over the world!

I created a number of hand piecing tutorial videos which will take you from showing you what supplies you will need, to how to do a running stitch, and sew through seam allowances, to piecing a four patch, half square triangle, flying geese, quarter square triangle units, how to make and use templates, sewing curves, and sewing partial seams. Check out the whole playlist.

That’s it for now, stay tuned for more details! We hope you will join us!
