We are coming into the final days to link up your quilt top in the Grand Prize Drawing for the Hand Pieced Quilt Along. To qualify for the prize, it must be linked up by April 30, 2019.
It has been amazing to see all the different ways a set of nine blocks hand pieced can look! If you haven’t yet, head over to the Grand Prize Link Up post and scroll to the bottom to see a huge gallery of inspiration!

I am actually still hand quilting my original quilt–I chose a Baptist Fan pattern and used a stencil to mark it with Crayola Ultra Clean Washable markers. Scary, right?! I know! But I did a bunch of tests with them to make sure that they do, indeed wash out. And they do! Even with just a bit of agitating by hand in a sink filled with water.
As much as I love hand piecing, I’m struggling a bit with the hand quilting–I have hand quilted a throw size quilt in the past, but I haven’t done one in a while. It is taking me a bit of time to find my rhythm. I just need to keep at it.
As for the set of blocks that I made during the QAL–those are still, sadly just blocks. I’m a little unsure how I want to set them, so I’m going to finish up quilting my first QAL quilt and let the setting of the rainbow version percolate in the back of my mind for awhile.
I have to say one more time that this Hand Pieced Quilt Along has been so much fun! I loved every minute of working with Patty to design the quilt, figure out the tutorials, and make the hand piecing videos. I’m a little sad it’s over, but it’s so gratifying to know that a bunch of people discovered (or rediscovered) a love for hand work.
If you haven’t already, make sure to link up your completed quilt top.
