Aren’t these pinwheel pincushions adorable? I’m joining the Fat Quarter Shop today in making one of their previous patterns in current fabrics. I seem to be addicted to making pincushions ever since I make these ones last year. And if you want a quick, useful project for yourself or a friend–you can’t beat a patchwork pincushion.

For my version, I’m using Minki Kim‘s new fabric line Someday. You just can’t beat those pinks and blues together. And I’m in love with that chicken print!

The 3D pinwheel was a unique and fun embellishment that was very easy to make. I stitched them both up in a single evening, so they would make a great last minute gift or to include in a swap.

I filled mine with crushed walnut shells, which give them a nice weight. If you’ve been filling pincushions with polyfil, then I invite you to try walnut shells–I bet you’ll never go back. And I’ve been using the same bag of walnut shells for years!
